Changes are afoot in Ybor City. Partygoers looking to kick up their heels will be able to experience entertainment in a much bigger way. The Czar and the Ritz Ybor, two popular nightclubs, are merging into one massive venue. The new and improved club will be called Czar at the Ritz.
The merger came about due to the ousting of the Czar from their current location in the Los Novidades building. The owner of the building received a grant to restore the historic building and instituted plans to move the nightclub out.
According to permits filed with the city, renovations of the Los Novidades building include removing the outside stucco and opening up the doors and windows that were sealed up. A historical preservation grant received by the building’s owner, Alan Kahana, is funding the renovation.
An overhaul is in the works for the Czar at the Ritz as well, including removing walls; building more bars; and a 40’ x 40’ LED ceiling.
The move is expected to be completed in July and a grand opening is scheduled for the second week in August.
