Military and Veteran Spouses
A posting to Florida should not cost you your career. If your spouse is on active duty and assigned to a Florida duty station, Florida will issue you a temporary professional license so you can go on working in your field while you complete the full application. It runs for six months and cannot be renewed, so it is worth starting the regular licensing process at the same time.
Who it is for
In broad terms, the temporary license is open to you if:
- you are married to an active duty member of the United States Armed Forces, and hold a military dependent ID card
- your spouse’s orders assign them to a duty station in Florida
- you already hold a valid license in the same profession in another state, the District of Columbia, a United States territory or possession, or a foreign jurisdiction
- you live in Florida, which state law requires for this license
You will also need to complete a background check, including fingerprints, and pay the application fee. Real estate is one of many professions covered, so the same route applies whether you are a licensee, a nurse, a cosmetologist or a contractor.
