Sun-loving Canadians have taken advantage of the Florida housing meltdown, accounting for over 40 percent of home sales in the Sunshine State in 2010. Over 500,000 Canadians now own property in Florida.
But now, it’s becoming more difficult to find bargain-priced distressed homes in Florida, according to Wayne Levy, company executive of Florida Home Finders Canada.
“Banks also aren’t in a rush now to get foreclosures off their books because prices are picking up,” said Levy, “and every month the banks hold back selling, the chances are better of recovering more of the mortgage money they are owed. As a result, Florida Home Finders is moving more into sales of properties over $200,000 and $300,000 as the inventory of deeply discounted properties disappears.”
